This is a family recipe that I can’t lose.
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup salad oil
3 eggs
3 cups of flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon anise seeds
1 cup finely chopped walnuts
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a large bowl, with your electric mixer at medium speed, beat sugar, oil and eggs until they are well blended.
Add the flour, salt and anise seeds and beat until well mixed. Stir in walnuts.
Divide the dough in half. On an ungreased cookie sheet, with floured hands, shape each half into a 12x3 inch loaf.
Bake 20-25 minutes until light brown.
Remove the loaves from the oven and immediately cut each crosswise into 1/2 inch diagonal slices.
Turn each slice on its side.
Return to oven and bake 15-20 minutes more until they are lightly brown and toasted, turning occasionally.
This makes four dozen mandelbrot, 95 calories each.
